Often, the choice to place a child for adoption initially appears to be the most difficult emotional decision. The idea of carrying a child for nine months only to release them into the care of another family may seem emotionally impossible.

However, you might choose this option if you want your child to have the chance to grow in a loving family while you prioritize your education, career, financial stability, and relationships. Our adoption specialists will help you examine this option further.

Adoption Options

You have a couple of different adoption plan options when faced with an unplanned pregnancy. Determining the kind of relationship you desire with your child and the adoptive family is important, as this will determine which adoption plan is for you.

1. Open Adoption

Open adoption is an excellent fit if you want to keep open communication between you and your child. With open adoption, you and the adoptive family exchange identifying information such as full names, addresses, and phone numbers. Together you and the adoptive parents will decide on the level of communication and physical contact that makes everyone comfortable.

2. Closed Adoption

Sometimes less information is easier. If you prefer to remain anonymous, you can choose a closed adoption. With this plan, you won’t have contact with the adoptive family or your child. There’s no need to build relationships. Your personal information is sealed and remains confidential.

3. Semi-Open Adoption

If knowing your child and their adoptive family while remaining anonymous sounds appealing, choose a semi-open adoption plan. You’ll still have contact with the family, but all contact is handled through a third party, such as the adoption agency or adoption specialist you choose.
